What is a Career :Understanding the Concept of Career
There is hardly a young person who has never heard the word “career”. Career may begin as soon as you pass childhood, adolescence and enter youth. Not everyone can set a career or take a long time to understand or some people don’t care much about career and try to follow their own will. Yet no one is exempt from virtue in career.
Just as people have to taste death when they are born, so today’s young society cannot be freed from the fascination of this career term, which has been widespread since the end of the 20th century.
Why is it called a career?
Etymology. The word “career” ultimately derives from Latin carrus, referring to a chariot. The Online Etymology Dictionary claims the semantic extension whereby “career” came to mean “course of one’s public or professional life” appears from 1803.
A career is a continuation of work in a particular field or profession. A career is what most of us think of today as just a job, a business or, more recently, freelancing. But the career is just to make money?
Career development expert “Don Rosenberg” writes in McKay’s The Balanced Career “Career can mean two things. One of which is profession, trade, profession or work-oriented education. But the other meaning is quite complex – depending on the development of all types of work, including work (for a living), education, unpaid work experience, internship or volunteer work, throughout a person’s life.”
A career is not limited to just doing a job or business. Volunteering, networking, part-time jobs, internships, projects, free customer service, content creation or social monetization can all be part of a career before starting a job or business.

“There is a huge difference between achievement and success. Many have achieved everything. They get better social contacts, secure high-ranking jobs, convert career aspirations into gains, secure top salaries and good incomes. These are just a few examples of the criteria by which many in society define a successful career. But these – degrees, ranks, desirable careers and good incomes only express “achievement”. The problem here is that “achievement” alone can never be a “successful career”. Career success is when your financial capability and work enjoyment come together and you realize that you are satisfied with your life and your work and career.” -Forbes
Careers are unique to each individual. The definition of career may vary by region, country, class, race, society and taste or personality. But career has a special relationship with society. Career and culture are inextricably linked. Career should not always be considered in terms of income or status in conventional society. Self-love, happiness and peace are also associated with it.
